Nine Years

I woke up Sunday morning and thought I am so blessed to have married Josh. No, I didn’t just realize this, but I woke up with it on my mind. I believe that I had a dream about what my life would have been like if I hadn’t married Josh and it was horrible.

I only dated a few guys and had a few crushes before I started dated Josh. I started dating Josh nine years ago today!! Wow, that is almost a decade! I was a 17 year old junior in high school and he was a 19 year old freshman in college.

I know that I wouldn’t be living the life I have now if I would have married someone else. I wouldn’t have a dog named Fenway, a 6 foot by 6 foot painting of Ray Charles in my living room, the nickname Jewels, a collection of John F Kennedy biographies, Marilyn Monroe Andy Warhol plates, the list could go on and on. But, most importantly I wouldn’t be married to Josh and share the love that we do. I love you Josh!

I am thinking about writing our story out for this blog and publishing it little by little. Now I am not a master writer, but I want to write it. I think that our story deserves to be told because it is ours.

Jeff & Jordan

I don't know if I have mentioned it or not, but I love to watch TV!  I know, I know this is a bad thing and I should be more active, but I love it.  Well, two of my favorite TV shows happen to be reality shows.  Luckily my husband loves them just as much as I do!  They are Big Brother and The Amazing Race.  I know some of you out there are fans too!  Some of my friends at work love it just as much as Josh and I, but usually differ one who they are rooting for.

Two of the biggest stars from last season's Big Brother, Jeff and Jordan, are now on The Amazing Race.  Now if you have never seen either of these shows, you should know they are completely different.  On Big Brother people are in a house for almost 3 months with no contact with the outside world and the contestants vote off one another to try to win $500,000. On The Amazing Race teams of 2 are racing around the world trying to win $1 million dollars and are eliminated based on who arrives last at the pit stop.

Jeff and Jordan did not know each other prior to Big Brother, but they developed a relationship inside the house and it has carried over into the outside world.  Jordan is a beautiful blonde that sometimes has airhead moments and happened to win Big Brother.  Jeff is an athletic, smart cutie that helped Jordan get to the end of Big Brother.  Now that they are on The Amazing Race we get to see how their relationship is outside of the house.  They are just as cute together outside of the house and it is good to know that they were just being themselves in the Big Brother house.  On last week's episode they were going to travel to Chile for the first leg of the race, and Jordan runs up to the ticket counter in the airport and says" We need 2 tickets to China!"  It was hilarious!

I hope that they do well on The Amazing Race, so they will be on the show for awhile.  I am sure they are helping the ratings, America loved them on Big Brother.  I read that they are still together after finishing The Amazing Race and I am happy to hear it!

P.S. The other team I am rooting for are Jet and Cord, the cowboys from Oklahoma (my home state)! They wore their Wranglers, long sleeve button up shirts, Cowboy boots and Cowboy hats with pride.

The Winter Olympics

As I am typing this the Opening Ceremony for the Winter Olympics is on.  I love the Olympics!  It doesn't matter if is the Summer Olympics or the Winter Olympics, I don't discriminate.  I love them both.  They are being held in Vancouver, British Columbia in case you didn't know.  Now I am a little confused about their ties to Great Britain and Canada, but I'll figure it out sometime.

This year, the Olympics kind of snuck up on me.  I didn't realize that it was time for them again!  There hasn't been much coverage of them up until a few weeks ago, and there still hasn't been much.  A friend of mine said it was because there aren't as many countries that compete in the Winter Olympics. There are less than half of the number of countries that participate in the Summer Olympics participating in the Winter Olympics.  For the next two weeks I will be watching all kinds of sporting events that I wouldn't watch otherwise, but for some reason I am hooked!

I plan on watching speed skating, figure skating, all kinds of skiing, bobsledding and curling.  My favorite is probably bobsledding an figure skating.  Are you an Olympic junkie?  If so, what is your favorite sport??

P.S. I love the all white rings they are using for the Olympic symbol, instead of the colored ones.

Valentine's Day Fashion

No, not that Valentine's Day, this Valentine's Day fashion!

Do you think that there are enough people in the cast?  I don't.  They could have added a few more to try to draw in people.  Just kidding.  There are like 20 people "starring" in this movie which means that they get about 5 minutes of screen time each!! With this many people in the cast there should be at least a few cute dresses and there sure were! Fashion photos courtesy of Y!movies.

Jessica Biel
Gorgeous!!  I love the fit, color and fabric.  It is different, but not Lady Gaga different, you know what I mean??  And it is romantic.  P.S.  I love her lipstick!

Jennifer Garner
She looks so young and like she is having a good time. I like the leather and lace look, a little toughness with a little softness. This can be hard to pull off, but there is the right amount of lace and leather and not too much skin showing.  I can just imagine some young starlet wearing this, but with their skin showing instead of the nude fabric.  P.S. Love the shoes.

Emma Roberts
She looks young and fresh.  She isn't trying too hard (OK, maybe the shoes are trying too hard) and she looks beautiful.  I love the neckline and waist detailing.  P.S. Her earrings are awesome!

Julia Roberts and Emma Roberts
Just wanted to show Emma with her aunt!  P.S. They have the same smile!

I plan on watching this movie, what about you?

My team lost

America's team won, but they aren't my team. I still love the Colts though. I hope not to hear too much bashing from the Saints fans or the bandwagon fans, but I am sure I will!!

My kind of weekend

This weekend has been my kind of weekend. Friday night Josh and I grabbed some yummy Mexican food, then came back home and watched some of our recorded shows. Well, I watched Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, and Josh was on the computer. Saturday we slept in a bit, then cleaned house. My mom came by a little after noon and we did a little shopping. She was looking for new appliances, so we headed to Lowes. She found the dishwasher, stove, washer and dryer she liked, but no refrigerator. So we have to go look again. Then we headed to the mall and man o man was it busy. We only went to 3 stores and decided to call it quits. Then we headed to my house to pick up Josh and my dad to go get something to eat.

We couldn’t decide between Texas Roadhouse or Abuelo’s, but eventually Texas Roadhouse won out. As we pulled in I spotted my cousin waiting outside. So we got to talk with my cousin and her husband and my other cousin and his girlfriend for 40 minutes while we waited. It made the time go by a lot quicker. We enjoyed good company, good conversation and good food. I love that our parents live only 45 minutes away, so we get to see them often.

This morning we decided to go watch Dear John, well Josh said he would take me to watch it. We went to the 11:10 a.m. show. And apparently if you go to the first showing of the day it only costs $5. So it only cost $10 for the tickets and $9 for the popcorn and Sprite, so that was a pretty cheap date.

I really liked the movie, but I did cry a lot. I had read the book, so I knew what the basis of the movie was going to be. The first time I read the book I didn’t like it, but I have since read it again and I liked it a lot more the second time around. The movie was different than the book, but I knew that they weren’t going to be exactly the same and I like that. I have never seen a movie based on a book that didn’t change things up a little bit, leave parts out or add new parts.

I am a huge Nicholas Sparks fan. I have read all of his books and seen all the movies based on his books. It is hard to say which is my favorite, but I would have to say The Notebook movie and book. My least favorite is probably Three Weeks with my Brother (his autobiography). I thoroughly enjoy all of his other books and movies. Do you have a favorite Nicholas Sparks book or movie?? What about least favorite??

Now it is almost time for the Super Bowl! And I will be watching and it won’t be for the commercials either!! It will be for the Colts. I have followed Peyton Manning since his days at Tennessee and still love to watch him play. Josh is a Dallas fan, so his team isn’t in it, but he is rooting for the Saints. We’ll have to see who wins!!

This definitely has been my kind of weekend. What is your kind of weekend?

My movie weekend

Last weekend Josh and  I watched my fair share of movies.  Not like one or two more like 5 or 6!!  I didn't see Four Christmases in the theatre because I thought it was more rental material.  So when it came out Josh put it in our queue on Netflix.  Well, a month and a half later I still haven't received it because of the Long Wait status (does anyone else have this problem with Netflix?  Always a long wait for the new releases.)  Josh surprised me with it Thursday night!!  And he got it for only $7! Score.  We had 500 Days of Summer and Whip It from Netflix and we got The Hurt Locker, The Surrogates, Carriers and Beyond a Reasonable Doubt from Redbox.  Some we enjoyed and some we didn't!

Four Christmases: We both liked it, it was funnier than what we were expecting.  I love Reese Witherspoon, but don't care much for Vince Vaughn, but in this movie I liked him.  I love the story and how they learn about themselves.  B+

500 Days of Summer: Josh didn't watch it, but unfortunately I did.  I hated it.  I don't like movies that skip around a lot.  It would show day 300 of their relationship, then day 158, then day 389.  It was confusing, plus it was sooo slow.  F

Whip It:: Josh and I really liked it.  It was pretty funny and love the girl power.  Go Hurl Scouts!!  I thought their made up names were pretty innovative: Smashley Simpson, Babe Ruthless and Rosa Sparks to name a few.  I did keep picturing Ellen Page in Juno though.  A-

The Hurt Locker:  I rarely watch rated R movies, but I made an exception with this one.  It had a lot of cursing and violence, but that is expected in a war movie.  Josh and I loved this movie. I liked that the cast weren't "big" movie stars; it was more of an independent movie.  A

Surrogates: Bruce Willis needs to be in better movies.  Josh and I put this on, but I couldn't watch it.  It was boring and not my kind of movie.  I am not into Sci-Fi.  We should have turned it off!  F
Carriers:  I don't remember seeing Piper Perabo in anything since Coyote Ugly, but this wasn't memorable.  I don't think there was enough background to the story.  It kind of jumped in and it didn't fill in some of the details.  It was definitely a straight to DVD kind of movie.  C

Beyond a Reasonable Doubt: I think this might have been a straight to DVD movie because I don't remember it coming to theatres.  But, Josh and I liked it. There was a definite twist to the movie, that was interesting and I didn't pick up on.  I liked the suspense and the actors, even though they aren't "big" stars they are known.  B

So I give The Hurt Locker, Whip It, Four Christmases and Beyond a Reasonable Doubt a thumbs up and Surrogates and Carriers a big thumbs down!  If you want more info on the movies you can read their plots at http://www.imdb.com/ .

Jane Austen

I have never read any of Jane Austen's novels.  I realized this as I was reading this blog: Superfluities .   I love to read so I don't know why I never read this.  It is probably a crime that I haven't read anything by her. I didn't read it in school like some students do.  I remember reading Romeo & Juliet, The Great Gatsby, The Scarlet Letter, Hamlet and Vanity Fair during high school, but never Pride & Prejudice or anything else by Jane Austen.

One of my goals for 2010 is to read all of Jane Austen's novels.  So here it goes.

Step 1: Get the works of Jane Austen.  CHECK - Picked up The Complete Novels of Jane Austen at the library tonight. (Note: I will probably try to get the individual books because the 1200 pages is intimidating me and it will be less bulky. Plus I will have to renew it a few times)

Step 2: Decide what order to read them in. Here they are in order that they are in the book.
1) Sense & Sensibility
2) Pride & Prejudice
3) Mansfield Park
4) Emma
5) Northanger Abbey
6) Persuasion
7) Lady Susan

Step 3: Begin reading

Step 4: Goal Complete

Now I need some help with Step 2.  If you have read any or all of them please leave your suggestions.

Grammy's 2010

From Red Carpet to Stage:

Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga loves to dress outrageous, so this wasn't a surprise.  I was expecting something a little more out there I guess, I think the shoes are the most surprising thing. It is incredibly short, but at least she wore panties, sparkly ones at that.  Then the kermit the frog getup with the football pads, no thanks.

Beyonce
Let me preface this by saying I am not a huge fan of Beyonce.  There I said it.  Now, on to the fashion, I don't like her red carpet look.  It is too tight, the wrong color, weird pattern, too light hair and did I mention too tight??  Performance attire is ok.  Her hair looks better and she is showing off her legs, although I wish she didn't have the tights on and she didn't keep grabbing herself during the performance.

Fergie
Love the red carpet look.  Fits perfectly, is the right length (not too long or short, not that I would wear something this short), and a great color for her. The gold accessories look nice, although the gold on her shoulder looks like a snake.  Performance outfit: She could be a Power Ranger in this outfit, plus the headband makes her look like Wonder Woman!

Pink
This is one of my 3 favorite red carpet looks.  I love the black, pewter, grey and silver.  I even love the fish scale look, it just works.  She has the right accessories too.  When I watched the Grammy's I didn't realize that her performance outfit was a bodysuit, so I was shocked they allowed that.  I guess all of her lady parts are covered, but I mean just barely!  When she finished her performance she literally ran off the stage it looked like from embarrassment.

Jennifer Neetles
The color of the dress is perfect, the fit is perfect and I like some of the black detailing.  I wish the semi-circle black detailing was gone.  I even like her tousled hair.  Her performance outfit isn't too bad.  I think the corset adds a bit of flair.  Not digging the hair.

All Wrong:
Britney Spears
It looks like she threw on a lace cover up over her one piece swimsuit.

Snooki
Don't like the shoes, dress is too tight and short and the hair just looks nasty.

Imogen Heap
It looks like she is wearing a quilter's circle around her neck.

Carrie Underwood
Ok, not all wrong, I think she is beautiful from the shoulders up.

All Right: (That reminds me of a Darius Rucker song!!)

Kathy Griffin
Wow! I like the color of the dress with her hair.  And she isn't trying to look 20 in a miniskirt. Funny, she did say she was starving on the red carpet!

Lea Michele
This dress is fun, young and flirty!  I love the color and the detailing on the skirt.  Good thing she ditched her original dress which was white and see-through and went with her back up dress!

Taylor Swift
Beautiful.  Another of my top 3 favorite looks.  I'm glad she didn't go with white, black, silver or gold, those seem to be her go to colors.  She changed it up a bit. It looks like the off the shoulder straps are actually holding up her dress, but for some reason I like it.  The neckline is different, but I like it on her.  And her hair, I wish I had hair like that!

Keri Hilson
I have not a clue what she sings ( I am notorious for not knowing who sings what, so I usually have to sing a few lines for anyone to know what song I am talking about, so that isn't saying much), but I love her look!  It is fabulous!!  The last of my top 3!!

Let in Snow

All last week the weatherman predicted that we would have a bad storm come to the area on Thursday with at least an inch of ice and then 7-12 inches of snow.  We have already survived the Blizzard of 2009 and the weathermen were right on with their predictions, I thought we should prepare for the worst.  We stocked up on food that we could cook on the stovetop in case we lost power, had the snow shovel ready, ice melt and had a few movies on hand (details to follow in a later post).

Wednesday it was 60 degrees, but Thursday was a different story!  It was in the low the 30's and the north wind was blowing!  It started raining and sleeting, then it started freezing rain.  I left work about 2 hours early before the roads got to bad.  Later in the evening it was still freezing rain, but no snow, so I set my alarm to get up at regular time.

Friday morning I got up and looked outside and it looks exactly like it did Thursday: the hedges and grass were frozen, but the streets lookd to be just wet.  So I got ready for work, but decided to wait until it was light out to go because of black ice.  Josh went to work and made it fine, but told me to take it easy and come home before it started snowing too heavily.  So I bundled up and let Fenway out one last time.  That is when I decided to stay at home.  It was pouring rain and freezing on contact.  It wasn't worth risking it for 3 hours of work.

An hour later Josh came home (because no one else came into work) and said that the roads were getting pretty slick.  So it was a good thing that I didn't go.  It started to snow before11 that morning and snowed until about 7 pm.  All in all we got about 1/2 inch of ice and 5 to 6 inches of snow!! We didn't lose power thankfully and the snow was very pretty, not the violent stuff we had during the Blizzard of 2009.  It was actaully pretty enjoyable, we got to relax and watch the snow fall!

Our poor iced over tree (which already needed replacing, but there is not much hope now)
