Let in Snow

All last week the weatherman predicted that we would have a bad storm come to the area on Thursday with at least an inch of ice and then 7-12 inches of snow.  We have already survived the Blizzard of 2009 and the weathermen were right on with their predictions, I thought we should prepare for the worst.  We stocked up on food that we could cook on the stovetop in case we lost power, had the snow shovel ready, ice melt and had a few movies on hand (details to follow in a later post).

Wednesday it was 60 degrees, but Thursday was a different story!  It was in the low the 30's and the north wind was blowing!  It started raining and sleeting, then it started freezing rain.  I left work about 2 hours early before the roads got to bad.  Later in the evening it was still freezing rain, but no snow, so I set my alarm to get up at regular time.

Friday morning I got up and looked outside and it looks exactly like it did Thursday: the hedges and grass were frozen, but the streets lookd to be just wet.  So I got ready for work, but decided to wait until it was light out to go because of black ice.  Josh went to work and made it fine, but told me to take it easy and come home before it started snowing too heavily.  So I bundled up and let Fenway out one last time.  That is when I decided to stay at home.  It was pouring rain and freezing on contact.  It wasn't worth risking it for 3 hours of work.

An hour later Josh came home (because no one else came into work) and said that the roads were getting pretty slick.  So it was a good thing that I didn't go.  It started to snow before11 that morning and snowed until about 7 pm.  All in all we got about 1/2 inch of ice and 5 to 6 inches of snow!! We didn't lose power thankfully and the snow was very pretty, not the violent stuff we had during the Blizzard of 2009.  It was actaully pretty enjoyable, we got to relax and watch the snow fall!

Our poor iced over tree (which already needed replacing, but there is not much hope now)

Here in my neck of the woods...

..............it is very cold!!!

Tonight another cold front is moving in and temperatures are dropping even more.  This week it has been in the 20's and 30's for highs.  I am going to play weatherman for a little bit.

Thursday:
Morning 12 degrees
Afternoon 9 degrees

Friday:
Morning 0 degrees
Afternoon 10 degrees

Saturday:
Morning -3 degrees
Afternoon 17 degrees

Negative 3, not positive, but really what does it matter when we are talking about temperatures that low!!  Tomorrow the wind chill is supposed to be brutal at -25 degrees with winds gusting 40 mph.

Schools are closing due to the low temps, but I will be making the trek to work tomorrow.  Work is never cancelled!! There is a possibilty of freezing rain and up to 3 inches of snow.

Now, Oklahoma has a winter, but usually it isn't this cold for so long.  We usually have cold spells and then warm spells. We have had snow on the ground since Christmas Eve, so it hasn't gotten above freezing for long periods of time in a while.  In places we still have several inches of snow.  Oklahoma weather is notorious for being a roller coaster, 60 degrees in the morning and wearing a coat and seeing snow flakes in the evening, so the weathermen aren't exactly believed all the time, but so far this winter they have been pretty on.

Now, if they could just be wrong this time and it end up being 70 degrees tomorrow!!!  A girl can hope right???
